 Shortly after joining the Oklahoma Highway Patrol, my friend, Trp. Nic Dees #731 was killed by a distracted motorist. I was shell shocked by the news. I walked around like an empty canvas for months. I would attempt to put off this persona that I was okay and did not need help. I was mad at everyone and everything for no reason, my personal life was deteriorating.  I broke down and started praying to God to take away all the burdens and stress. Gradually, God gave me the strength that I needed and was able to work through my issues.  

I began to feel like myself again. A few years later, I was involved in the shooting with Michael Vance. After the shooting, I struggled with sleep and would zone out for periods of time.  Once again, I turned to God for strength and felt as if God was telling me to get up and start moving.  At that point, I told myself that I was not going to let this shooting change my life. I had an overwhelming amount of support from my wife, family, friends and coworkers. Since then, I have been involved in several incidents and shootings. 

 My dependence upon God and mental health professionals have given me the resilience to progress in my personal life and career. My reasoning for joining the Highway Patrol, service, has led to yet another opportunity to serve to my fellow first responders.  

I owe all that I am today to God and my wife. I do not take this opportunity lightly and want you all to know that I am here to help.
